And Yet Here We Are 🚀

You Cannot Found A Thicket, And Yet Here We Are

Protocols and most tools we make are rather like kitchen tools rather than algorithms.

I was trying to think of a tool that is pure algorithm, ie it constrains what else you could use it for, and couldn’t think of any. I suppose most modern kitchen appliances, like the toaster, are pretty algorithmic, but you can always load a trebuchet with toasters.

Most of our tools embed very little information about the problem, the more information that is embedded the fewer uses it has. I don’t think we instinctually like tools that constrain us too much. We like the infinite possibilities we see in a rock.

Protocols need kitchens. A few appliances and the idea for a recipe.

Labs assume too much risk and limit the imagination.

Quote Dennett’s Darwin’s Dangerous Idea

“tool use confers intelligence on those who are lucky enough to be given the tool. The better designed the tool (the more information embedded in its fabrication), the more Potential Intelligence it confers on its user.”

The above is based on Richard Gregory’s work. Potential Intelligence is information about a problem. Gregory also defines Kinetic Intelligence as the smart move that the information enables the individual to take.
